Austin detectives are asking for the public’s help tracking down two men they say robbed someone in an East Austin parking lot, then turned around and sold the victim’s gold at a local cash-for-gold business.
The Robbery Unit says the holdup happened on Feb. 13 in the parking lot at 7112 Ed Bluestein Boulevard. Investigators later determined that the stolen jewelry was sold to a gold-buying business, a lead that helped generate surveillance images now being shared with the public.
On March 25, the Austin Police Department posted those stills on X, identified the investigation as case 26‑0440110, and asked anyone who recognizes the men to come forward. According to the post, a reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information that leads to an arrest. The Robbery Unit can be reached directly at 512‑974‑5092, and tips may also be submitted through Capital Area Crime Stoppers or the City of Austin’s online tip page at austintexas.gov.
Suspect descriptions
Detectives are circulating detailed descriptions in hopes that someone spots a familiar face or a standout piece of clothing.
Suspect No. 1 is described as a Hispanic male, about 20 to 25 years old, around 5-foot-7 and 140 to 160 pounds, with short black hair. Police say he was wearing a black zip-up jacket with a white logo over a white shirt.
Suspect No. 2 is also described as a Hispanic male, roughly 20 to 25 years old, with a similar height and build. According to the Austin Police Department, he has a clean-shaven beard connected to a mustache and a distinct tattoo on his right forearm. Investigators say he was wearing a light blue Goorin Bros “goat” hat and a black shirt. The department’s post notes that the two men “sold the victim’s gold at a gold-buying business,” which helped prompt the latest release of surveillance images.
How to help investigators
Police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was near 7112 Ed Bluestein Boulevard on Feb. 13 and might have seen something or captured useful video.
Anyone with information that could help identify the suspects is asked to call APD’s Robbery Unit at 512‑974‑5092. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Capital Area Crime Stoppers or by using the City of Austin’s crime tip page at austintexas.gov. The department says a reward may be available for actionable information that advances the case.
Why detectives released the images now
Detectives say that following the trail of the stolen jewelry to a gold-buying business was a key break. Records and surveillance video from that transaction led investigators to the still images and clothing details now being shared with the public.
Police are hoping that the combination of the unique hat, the visible forearm tattoo, and the men’s overall appearance will be enough for someone in the community to recognize them and provide a much-needed lead.
