A Tampa woman is facing a stack of felony charges after deputies say she fired several rounds at two people who were trying to leave a house on East Sligh Avenue in the early hours of Jan. 22. Both people got away without injury, the vehicle was not hit, and investigators later served a search warrant at the home and collected evidence they say is tied to the shooting.
What investigators say
Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Domestic Violence Section were called out around 3:04 a.m. for reports of gunfire at the East Sligh Avenue residence. According to the agency, a verbal dispute between the suspect, identified as 30‑year‑old Nicole Dorsey, and two other people escalated, and as the pair tried to leave, Dorsey allegedly grabbed a firearm and opened fire. A search warrant at the home turned up a firearm, three spent shell casings and ammunition, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Charges and evidence
Dorsey was arrested and booked on a slate of felony counts. According to West Orlando News, she is charged with shooting at, within or into a vehicle; two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; two counts of attempted aggravated battery with a deadly weapon; two counts of attempted second‑degree murder with a firearm; and one count of battery.
Court filings add detail
A pretrial detention motion reviewed by local media quotes witnesses who say Dorsey threatened to "kill" the pair if they left and then fired at them as they tried to get away, according to reporting from WFLA (via Yahoo). Those filings have been cited by local outlets as the case moves through an ongoing investigation.
What's next
The sheriff's office says the investigation remains active and that any further public updates will come through its Public Affairs Office. "We have zero tolerance for anyone who uses a firearm to threaten lives," Sheriff Chad Chronister said, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Bond and court‑date details were not included in the agency's press release.
Legal notes
Dorsey's charges will move through Hillsborough County's criminal courts, starting with arraignment and pretrial hearings. Local coverage has noted that investigators are urging anyone with information to contact law enforcement, according to West Orlando News.
