Enid police are working to untangle what they say appears to be a murder-suicide after a woman was shot and killed Wednesday evening. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found the woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Investigators say the suspected shooter was also found dead and that the case remains under active review.

According to KFOR, officers were dispatched shortly before 7:50 p.m. after multiple 911 callers reported hearing shots near 23rd Street and Cedar Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a woman in the 2300 block of East Cedar Avenue and had her transported to an area hospital.

Victim and Suspect Identified

The Enid Police Department has identified the victim as 53-year-old Kendra Diane Smith, according to KOCO. Investigators say the suspected attacker is believed to be her estranged husband, 56-year-old Jeffrey Len Smith.

Suspect Located at Travel Stop

Per KFOR, officers later tracked the suspected attacker to a Love's Travel Stop on Randolph Avenue, where they found him dead inside his vehicle from what appeared to be a self-inflicted wound. Police say early findings connect the shooting scene and the travel stop while detectives keep working to nail down a detailed timeline.

Investigation Ongoing

The Enid Police Department says the investigation is ongoing and no motive has been released, according to KOCO. Officers are asking anyone with information, including doorbell or surveillance footage from the area, to contact investigators as they continue to follow up on leads.
