A Saturday argument along the 2600 block of Gentilly Boulevard ended with a New Orleans woman allegedly forced into her own car, taken out of the city and then left behind with the vehicle at an unknown location, according to police. The New Orleans Police Department is treating the incident as a domestic case.
According to WWLTV, officers logged the encounter at about 1:17 p.m. on Feb. 28. Investigators believe the suspect strangled the woman at one point during the ordeal. After the victim was left behind, officers began tracking the vehicle, and detectives were still working to map out where the suspect had driven before abandoning both the woman and the car. No charges had been announced in the station’s initial report.
Investigation and Local Context
Detectives are investigating the case as a domestic incident and are still working to pinpoint the exact spot where the victim and vehicle were left, authorities said. It is the latest in a string of tense domestic disputes that have escalated into hostage- or abduction-style emergencies in New Orleans this month. Earlier in February, for instance, WDSU reported on an apparent hostage situation in Tremé. Advocates and officers regularly warn that domestic confrontations can turn especially dangerous once a suspect removes a victim from the original scene.
