San Diego is starting today, on the gray side: cloudy and about 63°F at San Diego International Airport (KSAN), with patchy coastal fog trimming visibility right along the water. The fog should thin out by late morning, and once it does, mostly sunny skies are expected to send afternoon highs up to around 75°F in the city.
Foggy Mornings, Sunny Afternoons
The marine layer is on the shallow side, so those low clouds and areas of fog will hug the immediate coast and western valleys before burning off by mid-morning. Inland neighborhoods will warm up quickly once the sun breaks through, and light northwest breezes around 5 to 10 mph will be common through the afternoon. If you are commuting along the coast early, plan a little extra time for reduced visibility.
Inland Heat Spikes This Weekend
Temperatures will climb inland as the week progresses: highs near 77°F on Friday, March 27, 2026, and into the low 80s on Saturday, March 28, 2026, and Sunday, March 29, 2026, with some valley and desert spots running considerably hotter. The National Weather Service warns that “Record setting heat will continue for some inland areas into the weekend” and also notes a slight chance of showers and some cooling by Tuesday–Wednesday of next week. For more details, see the National Weather Service.
Staying Safe And Where To Cool Off
To stay safe, shift strenuous outdoor plans to the early morning or evening, drink plenty of water, and check on older neighbors and pets during the hottest hours. The city points residents to public libraries and recreation centers as places to cool off; see the City of San Diego for locations and tips. If you had hikes or other outdoor events planned inland for Saturday or Sunday, it may be worth rescheduling or shifting them to cooler hours.
