A routine Tuesday night ride on Garner Road turned tense when gunfire hit a GoRaleigh bus, leaving three passengers shaken but unhurt, according to Garner police.
Officers responded around 8:30 p.m. after reports of shots fired and discovered the bus had been struck. A 911 call about the incident came in at about the same time, and police told WRAL that no injuries were reported.
Detectives canvassed the area Tuesday night, speaking with witnesses as the investigation got under way.
Busy Garner Road Corridor Shaken
The shooting happened on Garner Road, a heavily traveled southeast Raleigh corridor that connects downtown with the Town of Garner. According to GoRaleigh, Route 20 and other services run regular evening trips along the road, serving a string of stops throughout the corridor.
Garner police said investigators processed the scene Tuesday night and have not taken any suspects into custody. The investigation remains active as detectives follow leads and review any available surveillance in an effort to identify whoever is responsible, police told WRAL.
What Riders Should Know About Safety
GoRaleigh notes that its buses participate in national safety programs and that drivers receive training to assist riders. Transit operators and staff are described as the first line of contact for concerns on board.
Riders who see suspicious activity are encouraged to report it to the driver or transit customer service, and to call 911 in an emergency.
Anyone with information about Tuesday’s shooting is asked to contact the Garner Police Department through the department’s reporting portal or by calling its non-emergency line, according to the department’s online resources. Town pages list ways to submit tips and report suspicious activity as investigators continue to collect witness statements.
