A late-night stickup at a Hill District convenience store ended with a gunman on the run, about $200 in cash and several vapes missing, and one very shaken but uninjured employee. Pittsburgh police swarmed the area around the store last night, deploying a K-9 team and a drone in a neighborhood search that stretched into the overnight hours but turned up no suspect.
How the Search Unfolded
Officers were called to the Centre Avenue Market in the 2200 block of Centre Avenue around 11:45 p.m., according to WPXI. Police say the robber, described as a male carrying a backpack, bolted from the store on foot. Officers gave chase but eventually lost sight of him. Believing he may have ducked into a nearby abandoned apartment building, police cleared the structure, only to find it empty.
Police Tools and Neighborhood Context
Per Pittsburgh Public Safety, the department maintains dedicated drone and K-9 units that are regularly rolled out during searches and fugitive hunts. Those specialized teams work alongside patrol officers to sweep dense residential blocks and tight urban corridors where suspects can easily slip out of sight.
What Police Are Asking
Investigators are now working to track down any available surveillance video from the area and are asking anyone with information to contact police, according to WPXI. As of the latest update, no arrests had been made, and officials had not released a name or more detailed description of the suspect beyond noting that he was carrying a backpack.
