A North Side shopping trip turned into a crime scene on Monday afternoon when a man reportedly robbed a business at gunpoint, sending one person to the hospital and sparking a search by San Antonio police.
Officers were called to the 11400 block of West Avenue just after 2 p.m., where they found at least one victim who was later transported by emergency personnel to a local hospital. A firearm was recovered in the parking lot, and investigators say the case is still very much active.
What officers found at the scene
Two people in the parking lot told officers the suspect walked into the business with a gun, demanded cash and other items, and assaulted at least one person, according to KSAT. The outlet also reported that crime-scene tape went up near West Avenue and Serenade Drive as officers worked the scene and that a gun was found in the parking lot.
Suspect description and investigation
In a preliminary report, police described the suspect as a 54-year-old man, though they have not released a name. The department has not announced any arrests, and KSAT reported that SAPD said its investigation is ongoing.
For now, detectives are leaning on witnesses and any available video to piece together what happened and where the suspect went after the robbery.
How to report tips
Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery or the suspect to contact the San Antonio Police Department. According to the City of San Antonio, you can call the non-emergency line at 210-207-SAPD (210-207-7273) or dial 911 if the incident is in progress. Officials say any photos, security footage, or dash-cam video from around the time of the robbery could help move the investigation forward.
North Side context
The stretch of West Avenue where this latest holdup unfolded is no stranger to trouble. Nearby shopping centers and roadways have seen previous violent encounters and robberies, including a 2024 road-rage incident in the 11400 block that ended with an arrest. The pattern has left some neighbors pushing for more patrols and better lighting along busy corridors, according to the Express-News.
SAPD is also asking anyone with dash-cam footage or other information about the suspect to contact detectives as the investigation continues. Officials have not yet released details about any potential charges that could stem from the case.
