H‑E‑B has snapped up roughly 25 acres in Royse City and is plotting a full‑format H‑E‑B store on the far eastern edge of the Dallas‑Fort Worth area. The grocer says it is gearing up for extensive site work this summer, expects major construction to start early next year and is eyeing an opening sometime in 2028.
What H‑E‑B said
In a statement to The Dallas Morning News, Mabrie Jackson, H‑E‑B’s managing director of public affairs, confirmed the deal and the plans in the works.
She added that the company is gearing up for extensive site work that we look to commence this summer and noted that more details will roll out as the project develops.
Why Royse City?
Royse City sits along Interstate 30 and has turned into one of the fastest‑growing suburbs in North Texas. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated the town’s population at about 26,387 on July 1, 2024, up roughly 95% from April 1, 2020, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. That population surge has helped fuel new housing and retail projects across the eastern Metroplex, creating exactly the kind of customer base H‑E‑B likes to move in on.
Part of a bigger North Texas push
The Royse City site is the latest move in a steady east‑side push. H‑E‑B opened a store in Forney on Feb. 3 and launched a Rockwall location in 2025, according to The Dallas Morning News. On top of planting new stores, the company has been scooping up large tracts for logistics, including a multi‑hundred‑acre site in Valley View, according to the H‑E‑B Newsroom. Put together, those moves show H‑E‑B pairing retail expansion with long‑term supply‑chain investment.
What to watch next
Locals and city officials will be watching permit filings, site plans and traffic studies as the project works through the review process. Large H‑E‑B stores can have a sizable economic footprint. When the company sought zoning for a Dallas location, it estimated about 800 jobs and roughly $24 million in tax revenue over five years, according to NBC DFW. Those kinds of numbers tend to excite budget planners and worry commuters at the same time.
