A Jefferson County man is behind bars after deputies say he shot a woman inside a House Springs home, then holed up inside and triggered a SWAT standoff on Thursday. The incident unfolded in the 4000 block of Crest Drive, where the woman was treated for non‑life‑threatening injuries. The suspect, identified by law enforcement as Ronald L. Lalk, was eventually taken into custody without injury and is being held at the Jefferson County Jail.
According to a post on the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, investigators say the shooting happened inside the Crest Drive residence. While securing the scene, deputies obtained and executed a search warrant. The department reports that its SWAT team and Crisis Negotiation Unit were called in to manage the barricade, and that members of the prosecutor's office applied for in‑custody warrants, according to Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
Charges and custody
In its release, the sheriff's office lists a slate of felony charges against Ronald L. Lalk, including first‑degree assault (attempted murder), armed criminal action, second‑degree kidnapping and unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail, per Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. "Lalk exited the home and was taken into custody without injury to himself or anyone else," the release states.
How authorities responded
Deputies, the sheriff's SWAT team and crisis negotiators all responded to handle the tense scene. Sheriff Dave Marshak leads the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office in Hillsboro, and the agency lists him as the elected sheriff on its official site, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. Grant Bissell, the department's public safety information coordinator, is frequently the office's media contact and appears in prior news posts. UPI and other outlets have identified Bissell in that role, while local coverage has noted Trisha Stefanski as Jefferson County's prosecuting attorney, according to MyLeaderPaper.
What happens next
With multiple felony counts on the table, Lalk will remain in custody pending prosecution and an initial court appearance. The sheriff's post did not list a date for arraignment. Charging documents and subsequent court filings will be the next public records to spell out specific courtroom dates and the prosecutor's case against him.
