The Seattle Kraken ownership group has rolled out a big off-ice move, announcing Tuesday that it has created One Roof Sports and Entertainment, a new parent company that pulls the team, arena and community assets under one umbrella while also moving to acquire additional equity in Climate Pledge Arena to become the building’s majority owner. The shakeup arrived as league leaders and local officials were huddling in New York on other major decisions, and team and venue leaders say the restructuring is designed to simplify how they invest in the franchise and nearby neighborhood projects.
One Roof Will Unite Team, Arena And Community Programs
One Roof Sports and Entertainment is set to gather the Kraken, the One Roof Foundation and the organization’s other interests, including the Coachella Valley Firebirds and Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, California, under a single parent brand, according to The Seattle Times. The same structure will also cover the Kraken Community Iceplex as well as plans for a Memorial Stadium redevelopment, the outlet reports. Tod Leiweke will lead the new company, the announcement said.
Arena Operations And Oak View Group
Oak View Group, the developer that led Climate Pledge Arena’s transformation and oversees venue management and booking, will keep a role in booking and operations at the building, company materials and the arena’s site indicate. As outlined by Oak View Group and the arena’s official page, Climate Pledge Arena remains a central events hub for Seattle Center. The arena’s contact page lists its address as 334 1st Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98109.
Deal Details And Leadership
Ownership said One Roof has “entered into an agreement to purchase additional equity” that will make the new parent entity the majority owner of Climate Pledge Arena, as reported by The Seattle Times. Tod Leiweke called the move “this organization has done brilliant work, giving life to dreams that have shaped our region,” and majority owner Samantha Holloway said, “we’re committed to this community, and this parent brand brings together everything we’ve done,” according to the paper. Oak View Group CEO Chris Granger said the companies are proud of their partnership and of the path ahead.
Why The Timing Matters
The owners’ announcement landed alongside league meetings where expansion and venue questions are on the agenda, a pairing that keeps Seattle in the mix for potential wider pro-sports bids. NBA officials have said the league is actively “exploring” expansion and could take formal next steps at owners’ meetings this year, a development explained by NBC Sports. For local leaders, gaining greater control of arena equity could help smooth negotiations over redevelopment deals, partnerships and community benefits.
What Comes Next For Seattle
Team officials have framed the restructuring as a way to align on-ice ambitions with long-term community projects, work already underway through the One Roof Foundation, which has funded refurbished sport courts and youth programs across the region, per Seattle Kraken / NHL.com. At the same time, Seattle Center and city documents show that arena redevelopment and any ownership changes involve permit, council and school-district approvals, so this stake purchase is likely just one of several steps before any major construction or operational shifts. For now, leaders say fans should expect business as usual at Climate Pledge Arena while the new parent company builds out its leadership structure and project plans.
