A late-night shooting inside a Southeast Dallas apartment complex left an adult man dead and a juvenile in serious condition, according to police. Officers were called to the 3400 block of Great Trinity Forest Way at about 11:35 p.m. yesterday after reports of gunfire. Investigators say a male suspect opened fire inside an apartment, then fled the scene. The juvenile was taken to a hospital in serious condition, while the adult victim was taken to a different hospital by private vehicle and later died.
Investigation Underway at the Scene
Crime scene technicians recovered multiple shell casings, both inside and outside the apartment, and homicide detectives detained several people who were present for questioning as they canvassed the complex for surveillance footage. Detectives said the shooter left before officers arrived and that no arrests have been made at this time, according to FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth.
Recent Violence in the Same Area
The shooting is the latest in a series of violent incidents reported around the Great Trinity Forest Way corridor in recent weeks, an area that has already drawn increased attention from law enforcement. Earlier this year, separate deadly shootings in Southeast Dallas were reported on Jan. 29 and Feb. 6, each covered by The Dallas Morning News. Those earlier cases underscored the strain on investigators and the ongoing work of homicide units in the area, according to The Dallas Morning News.
Police Appeal for Footage and Witnesses
Investigators are asking anyone with video or information about the shooting to contact Dallas homicide detectives and to share tips through Crime Stoppers. The Dallas Police Department lists its Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-877-373-TIPS on its website.
What’s Next
Homicide detectives remain on the scene and are continuing to interview witnesses as they work to determine a motive, officials said. Police have not released the victims' identities, and the investigation remains active as detectives follow up on leads, according to FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth.
