Malgudi Garden, the Plano-based vegetarian Indian restaurant, has quietly taken over the former Masala Twist storefront in eastern Richardson, slipping into the Campbell Road shopping center with a South Indian–focused vegan and vegetarian menu. The chain opened its Richardson outpost last Thursday, giving regulars from the Masala Twist days a fresh, plant-forward spin on familiar flavors in the same space.
As reported by Community Impact, the Richardson restaurant is the second location for Malgudi Garden, following its Plano flagship, and occupies 955 E. Campbell Road, Ste. 200. The outlet notes menu highlights such as soups, chilli gobi, rice dumplings and tofu tikka masala. The rebrand also means the Masala Twist signage that once marked the unit has now been swapped out for Malgudi Garden’s name.
Menu and what to expect
Malgudi Garden promotes a “pure Vegetarian” approach on its website and runs buffets, dosa nights and tiffin-style specials at its Plano flagship, offering a preview of what Richardson diners can expect from the concept. The brand leans into South Indian specialties and plant-based interpretations of classic dishes, and it also highlights catering and takeout options online. Diners can check Malgudi Garden's website for current menus and hours.
A rotating lineup at the Campbell Road spot
The Campbell Road unit has already seen a few different identities. In 2019, Community Impact reported that the location operated as Chennai Cafe before rebranding to Masala Twist. The latest change to Malgudi Garden continues that pattern of owners tweaking names and menus to dial in a niche within Richardson’s dining scene, while adding another vegetarian-focused option to the Campbell Road strip.
How to visit
