Early Sunday, just after 2 a.m., Sacramento police responded to reports of a man down with a gunshot wound in the 1500 block of Waterwheel Drive in Natomas. Officers found an adult man suffering from at least one gunshot wound and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators arrived to process the scene, collect evidence and interview witnesses as they work to determine what led up to the shooting.
In a post on X, the Sacramento Police Department said the Sacramento County Coroner will release the victim's name once family members have been notified. The department added that "there is no suspect information to release at this time" and noted that callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for tips that result in an arrest.
How to help the investigation
Witnesses and anyone who might have information are asked to call the Sacramento Police dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357), according to the City of Sacramento. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the free "P3 Tips" smartphone app, and callers who provide information that leads to an arrest may qualify for a cash reward.
What officials have released
So far, officials have confirmed the fatal shooting and the response by officers, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators, but they have not released additional details about the victim or any potential suspect while the case remains under active investigation. Authorities are asking community members who may have video, photos or any other evidence from the area around the time of the shooting to come forward to help investigators piece together what happened.
