A pedestrian was left with life-threatening injuries after a brazen hit-and-run at Southampton Street and Bradston Street in Boston late Friday morning, according to police. Officers were called to the scene at about 11:35 a.m., but the vehicle involved had already taken off before investigators arrived. Homicide detectives and the Boston Police Fatal Collision Team were brought in, and the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital.
According to Boston 25 News, police confirmed the timeline and said the crash remains under investigation. The outlet reported that officers were on scene shortly after the 11:35 a.m. call, in what appears to be the first public account of the incident.
Serious Crashes Have Drawn Homicide Teams Before
The Southampton Street collision is the latest serious pedestrian crash this year in Boston to prompt a response from homicide-level investigators. In January, a hit-and-run on Commonwealth Avenue that killed a pedestrian and led to an arrest was handled by the Homicide Unit, according to a press release from the Boston Police Department. That earlier case was also reported by WCVB.
As of now, the department has not released a vehicle description or suspect information in the Southampton Street hit-and-run, and the investigation remains active. This story will be updated as authorities share more details.
