A 35-year-old Middleburg man died early Saturday after his car flipped in a two-vehicle crash on Jacksonville's Westside, according to authorities. Troopers responded to eastbound Normandy Boulevard near Carter Landing Boulevard just before dawn, briefly shutting down lanes while crews worked the scene. A passenger in the Middleburg man's car and the driver of the second vehicle were not injured.
Crash details
The Florida Highway Patrol reports the collision happened around 1:47 a.m., when one eastbound vehicle struck the rear of another. The impact caused the trailing car to flip, while the other vehicle spun onto the shoulder and hit a fence. The 35-year-old driver was taken to a hospital, where he later died. A 37-year-old woman from Orlando who was riding as a passenger, and a 41-year-old Jacksonville man driving the other vehicle, were not hurt, according to Action News Jax.

The North Florida Transportation Planning Organization's First/Last Mile study highlights sidewalk gaps and recommends targeted crosswalk and pedestrian-safety projects near Carter Landing as part of a broader improvement strategy, according to North Florida TPO.
Investigation
The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash remains under investigation and has not yet released the names of those involved. Troopers are asking anyone with information to contact FHP. The agency's initial account of the wreck was reported by Action News Jax.
