A 16-year-old boy was shot Monday night on Milwaukee’s north side in the 3600 block of North Port Washington Avenue, then taken to a local hospital with injuries police described as non-life-threatening. Milwaukee police say detectives are working the case, and by late evening the street was partly wrapped in yellow tape as officers combed the area. Neighbors reported seeing squad cars clustered on the block and a stretch of the roadway sealed off while investigators worked.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, officers confirmed the teen was transported for treatment and again described his injuries as non-fatal. Investigators were canvassing for witnesses and pulling whatever surveillance footage they could find, trying to piece together what led up to the gunfire. As of Monday night, police had not released details about any suspect or a possible motive.
Police Ask For Tips
As noted by CBS 58, investigators are asking anyone who knows anything about the shooting to contact Milwaukee police at 414-935-7360, reach out to Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS, or send an anonymous tip through the P3 Tips app. Police urged neighbors to hang on to any doorbell footage, text messages, or social media posts that might be relevant and to share that material directly with detectives instead of blasting it out online.
Where This Fits In
The shooting is another reminder that gunfire still flares up in Milwaukee even as broader crime trends have shifted. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has reported that many categories of violent crime fell in 2025, yet homicides went up, a pattern city leaders have called “vexing” while they lean on prevention efforts and community outreach. Police say quick tips from residents often make or break these investigations, and detectives again encouraged anyone who saw or heard anything Monday night on North Port Washington Avenue to come forward.
