A man in a black puffy jacket walked into a business on the northeast side of Columbus on Monday, slipped a note to the clerk, and walked out with cash. The quiet stickup unfolded in the 4800 block of Morse Road near North Hamilton Road, and as of Thursday, Columbus police said the suspect was still on the run. Detectives are asking anyone who recognizes the man to reach out, and no arrests had been announced.
Police Release Surveillance Images
Investigators have circulated several surveillance stills that show a Black male in a black puffy jacket with a small red emblem handing a note to a clerk and demanding money before taking off on foot, according to WSYX. The station reports the robber made off with an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and that detectives are using the footage in an effort to retrace the suspect's movements. The report also shares the lead detective's contact information for anyone willing to pass along tips.
Morse Road Has Seen Other Incidents
Morse Road has been the backdrop for other cases that prompted public appeals from law enforcement in recent years. A December 2024 burglary led police to seek similar help from the public. A Columbus Division of Police media release on a November 2023 fatal shooting in the 4800 block highlights how often investigators lean on surveillance footage and community tips; those earlier notices also spelled out how to contact detectives and Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
How To Help
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact Det. Lazar at [email protected] or by calling 614-645-4665, per WSYX. Police are urging residents not to approach the man if they see him and to call 911 immediately. Those who prefer to remain anonymous can submit tips through Central Ohio Crime Stoppers.
