Centennial High School in Roswell spent a tense Tuesday afternoon on lockdown after officials said an offsite threat led administrators to secure the campus. The city’s emergency notification system quickly pushed out alerts urging residents to steer clear of the area while police and school investigators checked the school and nearby streets. Inside the building, students stayed in classrooms under established lockdown procedures while authorities worked the scene.
Police, School District Step Up Response
"Roswell PD is in the area providing extra patrols; Fulton County Schools Police is leading the investigation," police said in a statement, according to WSB-TV Channel 2. The Fulton County Schools Police Department, which oversees safety across the district, reports that it has more than 60 certified officers on its force, according to Fulton County Schools.
City Alert Warns Residents Away
A citywide message sent through ALERTRoswell told people to avoid the area while investigators worked, WSB-TV Channel 2 reported. ALERTRoswell is the city’s public safety notification system and is part of Fulton County’s FALCON platform. Residents can sign up for phone, email, or text alerts through the city’s page for the service, so the next big warning shows up in their pocket instead of just passing by on social media.
How the Public Can Help Investigators
Anyone with information or concerns is urged to contact Fulton County Schools Police using the district’s tip line or the 24-hour number listed on its site, according to Fulton County Schools. The department also provides an email address for non-emergency tips and encourages the public to share any credible information with school police so investigators can follow up.
