What started as a sleepless night on a quiet Orlando block near W. Esther Street and Lucerne Avenue turned into a neighborhood-wide scare in the early hours of March 14. Around 3 a.m., residents reported a man trying door handles from house to house, and doorbell cameras captured a partially undressed figure moving between homes and exposing his genitalia. Multiple neighbors called police after seeing the intruder on their video feeds, and officers soon found a man nearby who matched the description. He was taken into custody and later booked.

What police say
In a March 31 update, Orlando Police identified the suspect as 30-year-old Jonathan Joseph Bedward. Officers reported finding a knife tucked into his waistband and a small amount of cocaine in his wallet during the arrest. According to Orlando Police, Bedward was arrested on four counts of attempted armed burglary of a dwelling, along with possession of cocaine and exposure of sexual organs. Investigators say the charges are tied to multiple attempts to open doors along the block that morning.
Charges and law
Under Florida law, burglary of a dwelling and attempts to commit burglary while armed can carry felony penalties. Unlawful exposure is covered under the state’s lewdness statutes. Florida’s exposure statute notes, "It is unlawful to expose or exhibit one's sexual organs in public or on the private premises of another," wording that can increase the severity of the charge depending on what happened. For specifics on the burglary statute, see Florida Statute 810.02, and for the exposure statute, see Florida Statute 800.03.
Neighbors and follow-up
Orlando Police have urged residents in the area to review their doorbell and security footage from that night and share anything relevant with detectives, noting that video from one of the cameras helped them identify the suspect. The department said investigators are still working leads and asked anyone with information or additional footage from the incident to contact the non-emergency line or submit tips online to assist the investigation.
