Covington police are asking the community for help after an overnight home invasion on the 1800 block of South Main Street, a quiet stretch that suddenly turned into a crime scene late Thursday.

According to the Covington Police Department's Facebook post, detectives say two men in dark clothing slipped into a home on South Main between Burnett Lane and Hastings Way sometime between about 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Investigators are now combing the area virtually and want residents to do the same.

Investigators described the suspects only as two males wearing dark clothing and urged anyone in that stretch of South Main who has cameras pointed toward the street, a driveway or a front door to take a closer look. "Even small details could be important to the investigation," Chief Donna Turner wrote.

Neighbors Urged To Scrub Their Camera Footage

Police are asking residents and businesses in the South Main Street area to review surveillance cameras, doorbell footage and dashcams from the past week for any suspicious people or vehicles that might be tied to the break-in.

The City of Covington's website lists the police department's non-emergency number as 901-475-1261 and central dispatch as 901-475-4300 for tips and urgent but non-911 information. Officers say leads can also come in through the department's social media channels.

How To Share Tips Without Taking Risks

If you spot footage that might help, police say to save the original file, note the exact time and date it was recorded, and then share a copy with investigators. Screenshots can blur important details like faces, tattoos or license plates, so video is best.

One more thing they are stressing: do not confront anyone you recognize on your footage. Call 911 in an emergency or use the non-emergency line if you are simply passing along information.

Home Invasions Have Hit Covington Before

Home invasions are not a new worry in the area. A 2017 Covington case eventually led to federal convictions, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Tennessee. That outcome showed how a local investigation can grow into a broader prosecution when multiple agencies get involved.

For now, investigators say they are still working the latest case and have not released any suspect names or announced arrests. Anyone with information or relevant footage is asked to call the Covington Police Department at 901-475-1261 or send a message to the department's Facebook post to share tips confidentially.
