A Cartersville man will spend the rest of his life in prison after a Paulding County jury convicted him of a string of violent sexual offenses, closing a case that first put him on police radar in 2018.
Jason C. Sisson, 44, was sentenced to two life terms plus another 25 years in Paulding County Superior Court, ensuring he will remain behind bars for the foreseeable future.
Sentence and court details
Superior Court Judge Scott Smith handed down the punishment on Tuesday, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. The sentence followed a guilty verdict returned late last month, with the Paulding Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office providing case details to reporters.
Conviction and trial
On Feb. 27, after a four-day trial, a Paulding County jury found Sisson guilty of rape, aggravated sodomy, aggravated sexual battery and cruelty to children in the first degree. Jurors took only about 15 minutes to reach their decision, as reported by Yahoo.
Prosecutors said the Euharlee Police Department opened the investigation on May 27, 2018, after the victim came forward. The case later moved into the Paulding Judicial Circuit in 2024, according to local reporting.
What prosecutors said
District Attorney Robert S. Lane did not mince words about the impact of the crimes.
"The crimes of rape and aggravated sodomy inflict some of the deepest and most lasting harm imaginable," Lane said, adding that the verdict shows those who prey on the innocent will face the full weight of justice, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. His office led the prosecution once the case shifted into Paulding County.
Legal note
The sentence means Sisson will remain in state custody while any appeals or post-trial motions go forward. Defense attorneys in serious felony cases often pursue post-trial relief, but the district attorney’s comments and the severity of the punishment highlight how seriously the court treated these convictions.
