Plano ISD’s construction push is hitting its stride, with two of its biggest 2022 bond projects on track to land in 2026. A new Career and Technical Education center is slated to open this fall, and a full replacement of Haggard Middle School is moving into finish work. District leaders say the CTE Center now has its shell and utilities in place, while Haggard’s new building is largely enclosed as crews pivot to interior details. The progress folds into a broader calendar of summer and late‑year completions funded by the district’s 2022 bond program.
Board Update: Timelines And Progress
At a Feb. 17 board work session, Tony Pearson, Plano ISD’s director of planning and new construction, told trustees the CTE Center has its structural steel completed, roof decking underway and permanent utilities on site, with completion scheduled for October 2026. He said the Haggard Middle School replacement has moved out of heavy structural work and into interior finishes, with ceiling grid, MEP systems and kitchen equipment now being installed. The new campus, estimated at about 187,900 square feet, will be built while the existing school remains open, and the old building will be demolished only after the new one opens, according to Plano ISD.
CTE Center: Hands-On Programs And A Fall Opening
“It is especially impactful to see this project rise from the ground,” Pearson said, describing the center as a visible investment in future-ready programming for Plano students. The district’s CTE Center page says the new campus will open in fall 2026 and will house industry-aligned programs that let students earn professional certificates in areas such as culinary, welding, automotive and cybersecurity, according to the CTE Center.
Williams And Near-Term Finish Lines
Pearson’s update also flagged several projects expected to wrap this year, including a kitchen and dining addition at Isaacs Early Childhood, systems and compliance work at Vines High School and structural repairs at Clark High. He said the second phase of Williams High School’s renovation is pacing toward a November completion, with demolition of the band hall and fine-arts areas scheduled to begin in March, as reported by Community Impact.
Trustees Urged To Look Ahead
PISD board president Lauren Tyra urged her fellow trustees to “start thinking about planning for the next bond program” and encouraged campus visits this summer so trustees can see building conditions firsthand, a point Community Impact highlighted after the Feb. 17 meeting. Her comments underline how district leaders are already juggling the delivery of 2026 milestones with early planning for what comes next.
What To Watch Next
Beyond 2026, major renovations at Plano East and Plano West senior high schools and multi‑phase work at Plano Senior High are expected to extend into 2027, according to district bond materials. PISD shows the district sequencing demolition, track work and final project phases in an effort to minimize campus disruptions while construction continues.
