Southwest Fort Worth is getting its first Target, and the retailer has set an opening date: October 11. The roughly 148,000-square-foot store is rising at the northwest corner of Chisholm Trail Parkway and McPherson Boulevard, a site Target has had on the books since 2023, and it will bring about 150 jobs to the fast-growing corridor.
The store's location marks new territory for the retailer. As Fort Worth Star-Telegram reporter Emily Holshouser detailed, this will be Target's first location in far southwest Fort Worth, and it sits roughly six miles south of the existing SuperTarget near Bryant Irvin Road and Interstate 20, according to MySA. Southern Tarrant County residents have previously had to drive north to I-20 for the nearest Target, per Audacy.
State licensing filings peg the construction cost at $22 million for the 148,827-square-foot building, with work having started in October 2024. The new Target is set to include a food-forward selection of fresh and affordable produce, meat and dairy, along with a CVS pharmacy, a Target Eyeglass Store, a Starbucks, EV charging stations, and adult beverage offerings. Target also announced new design elements coming to its stores this November, though specifics for the Fort Worth location were not detailed.
Anchoring a Booming Retail Power Center
The Target will anchor the wider Shops at Chisholm Trail Ranch, a 213,418-square-foot retail power center built on nearly 27 acres off McPherson Boulevard, according to Mazaheri Properties. That center opened its initial retail phase between 2019 and 2020 with tenants including Studio Movie Grill, Marshalls, Old Navy, and Ulta.
The retail push directly serves the 600-acre Chisholm Trail Ranch master-planned community, where more than 8,500 single-family homes are completed or under construction, per Edge Realty Partners. The community sits less than 12 minutes south of Downtown Fort Worth via the Chisholm Trail Parkway tollway, making it an easy commute for residents who previously lacked nearby big-box retail.
H-E-B Holds Land but Won't Commit to a Timeline
Just down the road, grocery giant H-E-B owns a site at 5501 Crescent Hill Lane and has filed early paperwork for future development, including an urban forestry permit for site grading on the 11.8-acre tract, according to Fort Worth Report. That tract sits near a planned 2,764-square-foot White Castle restaurant. H-E-B bought two parcels off McPherson Boulevard back in 2023, but the grocer has not formally announced plans for a new location there.
The contrast is notable: while Target is moving forward with a full-scale, nearly 150,000-square-foot store opening next month, H-E-B continues to hold land and file early site paperwork without committing to a construction timeline, the Fort Worth Report notes.
A Corridor Reshaped by Growth
The broader submarket has been filling in fast. Just off Chisholm Trail Parkway, Tarleton State University is developing an 80-acre Fort Worth campus that unveiled an updated 17-building master plan in April as student enrollment topped 2,600, per Tarleton State University. The university opened its first building along the parkway in 2019 and plans a dedicated overpass by 2028.
To keep pace with the growth, the North Texas Tollway Authority is undertaking a $250 million project to widen a 13-mile southern section of the 27.6-mile Chisholm Trail Parkway corridor from two to four lanes by late 2028, according to TollGuru. Toll rates along the parkway rose to 22 cents per mile in July 2025. The infrastructure investment tracks with citywide numbers: U.S. Census Bureau estimates released in May 2026 showed Fort Worth added more than 19,000 residents in a single year, pushing the city's total population past 1 million and placing it among the fastest-growing large cities in the country.
Part of a Bigger Chain-Store Pipeline
The new Target joins a steady pipeline of national chains entering Chisholm Trail Ranch. Waffle House filed plans in January to build a 1,840-square-foot diner on Brewer Boulevard, targeting an August 2027 completion, since the nearest existing Waffle House locations are miles away in Benbrook and Burleson.
The Fort Worth opening also fits into Target's larger regional push. The company is aiming for up to 300 new locations nationwide by 2035, following 2026 openings in Little Elm and Dallas's Oak Cliff neighborhood. Target already operates over 160 stores across Texas and more than 50 across the Dallas-Fort Worth market, making the Chisholm Trail location one more piece of an aggressive metroplex expansion.
