Two people were hit by gunfire in separate early morning shootings across South Tacoma on Saturday, keeping first responders busy before sunrise. Around 1 a.m., officers responded to reports of shots near Fawcett Avenue and South 86th Street, where a 17-year-old girl was found with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. About two and a half hours later, at roughly 3:30 a.m., officers discovered a man with a gunshot wound near the 4300 block of South Pine Street; he was taken to a local hospital and listed in critical condition.
According to The News Tribune, Tacoma police were first dispatched to multiple 911 calls about a gathering near Fawcett and South 86th, then later to the separate scene on South Pine Street. The outlet cited Tacoma Police Department spokesperson Shelbie Boyd as providing the initial information from both locations.
"The cause of the shootings is unknown at this time," Tacoma Police Department spokesperson Shelbie Boyd told The News Tribune. Detectives processed both scenes overnight, and as of Saturday morning, police had not announced any arrests.
A String of Recent South End Incidents
The overnight violence adds to a tense stretch of recent incidents in Tacoma's South End. A Feb. 24 case in which nearly 60 rounds struck a home and a 21-year-old woman was wounded drew coverage from nearly 60 rounds struck a home and local broadcasters including KIRO 7, which released surveillance video that appeared to show masked suspects opening fire. Those earlier episodes have ramped up pressure on investigators and heightened community concern.
Police Request Tips and Footage
"Anyone with information is encouraged to call Tacoma police," KIRO 7 reported, noting that detectives routinely look for video and witness accounts that might link separate scenes. The Tacoma Police Department is asking the public to share any footage or details that could help move the latest investigations forward.
