Charlotte wakes up cloudy and muggy this Monday, March 30, with low clouds hanging on and temperatures stuck in the low 50s. As the day wears on, that gray ceiling should thin out and break, letting highs bounce into the mid 70s by mid afternoon.
Today: Mid 70s And Mostly Sunny
By this afternoon, expect mostly sunny skies with a high near 74°F. South-southwest winds will run around 3 to 9 mph, with occasional gusts up to 18 mph. The chance of any measurable rain is essentially zero, and there are no watches or warnings in effect, according to the National Weather Service.
Midweek Heat And Spotty Storms
Things turn noticeably warmer on Tuesday, March 31, with highs near 80°F, and even hotter on Wednesday, April 1, topping out around 84°F. Along with the heat, afternoon shower and thunderstorm chances climb into the 20 to 40 percent range, with the highest odds over the mountains. Any storms should be the quick-hitting, pop-up variety driven by daytime heating, capable of brief heavy rain and some gusty winds.
What To Know For Plans
Outdoor plans and commutes look good today, but if you are banking on clear skies later this week, it is smart to have a backup plan for afternoon activities when those pop-up storms may fire. Flying in or out of Charlotte Douglas International should stay in VFR territory, although southerly wind gusts through the week could reach 15 to 21 knots. If you are traveling, keep an eye on airline and airport notices for any updates.
This warm stretch is a repeat performance of an early March spike we covered on March 6. For a refresher, check out our early March heat spike.
