An 18-year-old Roseville man is in custody after deputies say he talked about carrying out violence at Forest Lake Christian High School in the Lake of the Pines area of Nevada County. The campus was not holding regular classes at the time, but deputies were posted at the school during a planned evening event as a precaution. Investigators later tracked the student to Rocklin, where local officers detained him in a movie-theater parking lot until Nevada County deputies arrived.
Investigation And Charges
According to The Sacramento Bee, Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies said the man is a student at Forest Lake Christian and was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats to willfully cause great bodily harm. The investigation began after school staff reported a potential threat to a sheriff’s school resource officer, which prompted deputies to launch a criminal-threats case.
How Deputies Found The Suspect
Deputies eventually located the student in Rocklin after Rocklin police detained him in a movie-theater parking lot, ABC10 reported. Nevada County deputies then took over and booked him into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility in Nevada City. NCSO Capt. Russell Greene told the station that people should report suspicious activity and noted that anonymous tips can be sent through the sheriff’s website or tip line.
Booking And What Comes Next
Per The Sacramento Bee, investigators described the suspect as an 18-year-old Roseville man and said no students were hurt. The sheriff’s office has not released any information about a possible motive, and prosecutors will review the case to decide whether to file formal charges.
What California Law Says
Under California Penal Code §422, it is a crime to make a willful threat to commit an act that would result in death or great bodily injury if the threat causes the target to experience reasonable, sustained fear. The offense can be charged as either a misdemeanor or a felony, and a felony conviction carries significantly higher prison exposure.
Local Context For Nervous Families
The arrest lands in the middle of a tense stretch for area schools. Local authorities recently investigated school threats that led to several juvenile arrests at Roseville High, and district officials have been relying on behavioral threat-assessment protocols, according to KCRA and earlier coverage of the trio of teen arrests. Schools and law enforcement are again urging parents and students to flag troubling messages or behavior quickly so potential threats can be evaluated and addressed.
Nevada County officials asked anyone with information about the Forest Lake Christian case to contact the sheriff’s office. The agency’s anonymous tip line and online tip form are both options for those who do not want to give their names, ABC10 noted. Investigators say the probe is still active and that more details will be released when they can share them.
