An SUV slammed into a neighbor’s house in Westmoreland County yesterday morning, stopping within feet of a 3-year-old child inside. Neighbors pulled out their phones as emergency crews rushed in, and the vehicle sat jammed against the home’s exterior. Officials have not publicly identified the driver or detailed any injuries, and investigators are still working to determine why the SUV left the roadway.
Station video shows a near miss
According to CBS News Pittsburgh, KDKA-TV reporter Chris DeRose said a Westmoreland County man drove his SUV into his neighbor's house on Monday morning, coming “within just feet” of the toddler. Video aired by the station shows the SUV pressed into the side of the home while worried neighbors and first responders cluster outside. The report did not identify the township where it happened or say whether any charges have been filed.
Not an isolated problem in the region
Crashes into homes are not unheard of in the area. In 2019, WTAE reported on an SUV that crashed into a Murrysville house and led to checks on the building’s stability, and WPXI covered a May 2025 wreck on Route 22 in Derry Township, where a vehicle was shoved into a family’s kitchen after the driver hit a deer. Together, those incidents highlight how an ordinary drive can turn dangerous in seconds and how structural inspections often follow when a vehicle hits a home.
In cases like this, police typically look at speed, possible impairment, and mechanical problems while emergency crews keep the scene secured until the house is considered safe to enter. Officials told the station that the investigation into Monday’s crash is still underway, and they have not released any additional details.
