St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic School in Concord Hill, just west of Marthasville, is set to close at the end of this school year, the Archdiocese of St. Louis has announced. The move brings to a close a more-than-century-long run for the small parish school that has served as a cornerstone for the farming community in Warren County.
According to The Missourian, archdiocesan officials said St. Ignatius has struggled financially and "relies heavily on subsidies," financial pressures that ultimately drove the closure decision. The Missourian reported on the decision on March 6, 2026, citing the archdiocese’s review of the school’s finances.
Archdiocese Review Led To Closure
The closure comes in the middle of the archdiocese’s wide-ranging "All Things New" planning effort, which has been scrutinizing parish life and Catholic education since 2022. As the archdiocese explains on its All Things New site, the review looks at enrollment trends, staffing levels and parish subsidies, and it has already resulted in consolidations and closures where schools are unable to sustain operations.
A Long Local History
On its parish website, St. Ignatius notes that the church and school have served the Concord Hill community for "more than 160 years," tying generations of families to the small campus on Mill Road, according to St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish and School.
What comes next is still very much up in the air. It remains unclear how the archdiocese or the parish will handle student placement, staff reassignments or future uses of the St. Ignatius campus. The Missourian reports that the initial notice to the community included limited operational detail, and local leaders have not yet announced any transition meetings or formal plans for shifting students to other schools.
The St. Ignatius shutdown follows a string of recent parish-school closures across the Archdiocese of St. Louis, as officials confront shrinking enrollments and rising subsidy demands. When the archdiocese closed South City Catholic Academy in January, it pledged placement and enrollment help for families and staff, a move officials may echo in this case, according to reporting by First Alert 4 (KMOV).
