Rush hour on a Bronx bus turned ugly when a man allegedly pulled a sharp object and attacked a fellow rider on a southbound BX41 in Mount Hope, and police say he is still on the loose.

The NYPD says the assault happened on Feb. 28 at about 5 p.m. A 35-year-old man was struck in the hands, injured, and taken by EMS to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition. Investigators say the attacker flashed a sharp object, hit the victim, then hopped off the bus and took off on foot.

Police Release Image, Ask Riders To Speak Up

According to Norwood News, the NYPD has circulated a still image of the man wanted in the case and is combing through bus surveillance footage and witness statements. The photo, credited to the NYPD, shows the suspect on board the bus shortly before the incident.

Detectives have described the episode as an unprovoked assault. As of now, no arrests have been announced, and the case remains an open investigation.

Busy Webster Avenue Stop Becomes Crime Scene

The BX41 runs along Webster Avenue and makes a key stop at East Tremont Avenue, the location police highlighted in their appeal. MTA Bx41 data lists Webster Av/East Tremont among the route’s regular stops, placing the attack in the middle of a bustling commercial strip during peak afternoon service.

Riders and local businesses say that stretch is routinely packed around 5 p.m., which can make it tougher for detectives to pin down exactly who saw what in the chaos of a crowded bus.

Suspect Description

Police describe the man they are looking for as about 5 feet 5 inches tall and roughly 20 to 30 years old. In the image released by investigators, he is seen wearing a black jacket and a dark-gray sweater.

According to the NYPD, he brandished a sharp object and struck the victim’s hands before getting off the bus and running south on Webster Avenue. Police have not reported any arrests tied to the case.
