Amazon is cranking up the speed for Sacramento shoppers, rolling out new one-hour and three-hour delivery windows across the region. Announced on Tuesday, the move puts household goods and groceries on a much shorter fuse, using the company’s existing local fulfillment network to close the gap between click and doorstep.
According to the Sacramento Business Journal, more than 90,000 products in the Sacramento market are now eligible for the tighter delivery windows, which will show up as options at checkout when available. The outlet reports that the expansion is part of Amazon’s broader push to boost same-day options in more mid-sized U.S. metro areas.
Local Logistics Behind the Speed
The faster time slots are powered in large part by Amazon’s footprint at Metro Air Park, including a roughly 1.08 million-square-foot facility at 4930 Allbaugh Drive. Commercial property listings indicate that the building at that address totals about 1,079,741 square feet, per PropertyShark, and federal inspection records identify 4930 Allbaugh Drive as an Amazon fulfillment facility, according to OSHA.
How It Fits Into a National Push
The Sacramento rollout slots neatly into Amazon’s nationwide same-day expansion strategy, which aims to put groceries and everyday essentials within same-day reach for a larger share of customers, according to Fortune. That acceleration turns up the competitive heat on quick-delivery rivals, as Instacart and other local grocery services already offer one-hour delivery windows in the Sacramento area, per Instacart.
What Shoppers Can Expect
For customers, the shift should show up quietly but clearly at checkout. Shoppers in eligible neighborhoods will begin seeing one-hour and three-hour delivery windows listed for qualifying items, according to the Sacramento Business Journal. The fastest options will depend on local inventory and how close a customer is to Amazon’s fulfillment space, so some ZIP codes are likely to see the new time slots before others.
