What started as a string of missing wallets and car keys at Santa Clarita gyms has ended with a 39-year-old woman in custody in Bakersfield, after detectives say they tied her to a months-long locker theft spree that stretched across the Santa Clarita Valley.

Deputies allege the woman quietly raided gym lockers from July 2025 through February 2026, swiping wallets, purses, and vehicle keys, then using those keys and credit cards to drive off in victims' cars and rack up unauthorized purchases. Authorities say she is being held without bail.

According to a post from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, detectives with the station's Crime Impact Team, working with other units, spent months tracking the pattern of locker burglaries before locating the suspect in Bakersfield. The post states she now faces multiple felony counts, including burglary, auto theft, and identity theft, and that she has 11 outstanding warrants spanning three counties. Crime Impact Team deputies transported her back to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station jail for booking.

How deputies say the scam unfolded

Detectives say the suspect worked the locker rooms, targeting multiple gyms and pulling small items that opened the door to much bigger thefts. According to sheriff's officials, she would climb into or open lockers, grab keys, wallets, and cards, then head out to parking lots where those keys allegedly gave her access to victims' cars.

In several cases, investigators say vehicle keys taken from lockers were later used to drive away the victims' cars, and that stolen credit cards were used for additional purchases. The Signal previously reported in 2019 that deputies had already been asking the public for help identifying gym thieves, highlighting that locker-room rip-offs are not a new headache in the valley.

Charges and custody

Per the sheriff's post, the suspect faces multiple felony charges, including burglary, auto theft, and identity theft, and remains locked up without bail. Investigators say her 11 outstanding warrants span three different counties and predate this investigation.

Prosecutors will ultimately decide which charges move forward in court, and any arraignment schedule will be set as the case progresses through the legal system.

What detectives recommend

Sheriff's officials are using the arrest as a reminder that gym lockers are a tempting target. They urge gym-goers not to leave valuables in lockers and to keep vehicle keys separated from bags or wallets whenever possible.

Anyone who thinks they may have been targeted, or who has surveillance video or other information, is asked to contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station. Contact details are available on the department's site at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Investigators also encourage potential victims to review bank and credit card statements for suspicious activity and to report any unauthorized charges to both their financial institutions and detectives.

Officials say the arrest follows months of legwork by the SCV Crime Impact Team and allied units, and that they are still combing through surveillance footage and purchase records in an effort to identify additional victims. Detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward so they can close open leads and, when possible, return stolen property to its rightful owners.
