Light rain is falling across Seattle on Thursday, March 5, with temperatures near 45°F at Boeing Field and light southeast winds in the mix. Showers should ease into mostly cloudy skies through the afternoon, but another front is set to roll through late Thursday and bring steadier rain overnight into Friday.
Tonight Through Monday
Rain will pick up after 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5 (PST), becoming steadier overnight with lows near 44–46°F and a high around 50–51°F on Friday. New rainfall totals should stay modest, generally a tenth to a quarter of an inch, but the steady rain could slow commutes. Saturday and Sunday (March 7–8) look damp with highs in the low-to-mid 50s before a cooler system arrives late Sunday into Monday (March 8–9). That system will drop snow levels to pass elevations Sunday evening and to roughly 1,000–1,300 feet by early Monday, creating a window for a rain and snow mix in some interior lowlands.
The Cascades are under a Winter Weather Advisory through 10 a.m. Thursday morning (March 5, PST), small craft advisories are posted for parts of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and nearby coastal waters, and forecasters do not expect river flooding over the next seven days, according to the National Weather Service.
Commute And Local Impacts
Expect wet streets and slower travel on bridges and exposed hills during afternoon and evening commutes, with low ceilings that could trigger brief flight impacts at Sea-Tac and Boeing Field. South to southwest winds will generally stay light to moderate but may strengthen on exposed ridges this weekend with occasional gusts. Mariners should plan for elevated seas in the outer waters and heed small craft advisories before heading out.
Our Earlier Coverage
We first flagged this soggy pattern in our March 3 update, and the latest forecast tightens the timing and nudges up the odds for a lowland rain and snow mix early next week. Keep an eye on local travel agencies and the National Weather Service for updates before driving over the passes or planning outdoor activities.
