The Diner at Webb Gin in Snellville hit a serious bump on Tuesday, failing a routine state health inspection with an unsatisfactory "U" and a score of 61. Inspectors said multiple violations documented during the March 10 visit created direct risks to public health, triggering a mandatory follow-up inspection within ten days.
According to The Georgia Sun, inspectors with the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Gateway Health District logged nine violations, several of them Priority items. Among the most serious were raw pork stored above ready-to-eat foods and raw chicken stacked above raw beef in the walk-in cooler. Staff reportedly rearranged items on the spot to restore the proper cooking-temperature order.
What a U Grade Means
Georgia administrative rules require a follow-up inspection within ten days after a "U" grade and allow health officials to request voluntary closure or pursue permit suspension if violations are not corrected, according to the Georgia Secretary of State. By those rules, a letter grade of "U" is given for any score of 69 or lower.
Violations Inspectors Recorded
The report also flagged the restaurant’s dishwasher, which was running with a chlorine sanitizer concentration of zero. Staff pulled dishes and rewashed them in the three-compartment sink. Inspectors discarded several temperature-controlled foods that had been held longer than seven days, including salsa, French onion soup, pot roast, stroganoff and deli meats. They also cited improper time controls, misuse of a handwashing sink, produce handled before washing, clean dishes stacked while still wet and employee personal items stored in food-preparation areas, The Georgia Sun reported.
