A federal jury in Springfield needed only about half an hour on Thursday to find 39-year-old New York resident Ahmaad Jarvis guilty on a slate of fentanyl and methamphetamine charges in U.S. District Court, capping a Drug Enforcement Administration investigation that hinged on wiretaps and a high-stakes traffic stop last fall.

Conviction And Potential Sentence

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri, Jarvis was convicted of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, unlawful use of a communications device, and possession with intent to distribute both methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Federal prosecutors say that under the applicable statutes Jarvis faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and could receive up to life without the possibility of parole. A sentencing date will be set after the U.S. Probation Office completes a presentence investigation.

Wiretap, Traffic Stop And Seized Drugs

KTTN reports that the DEA used a court-authorized Title III wiretap in an investigation that began in October 2023, intercepting calls in which Jarvis discussed traveling to Los Angeles to obtain narcotics for distribution in the Springfield area.

On Oct. 20, 2023, investigators stopped Jarvis while he was driving from the Kansas City area to Springfield. Authorities say a search of his vehicle turned up about 10 pounds of methamphetamine and roughly 400 grams of fentanyl.

Last Defendant In Wider Federal Crackdown

Jarvis was the final defendant to go to trial after 13 co-defendants entered guilty pleas, all swept up in an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces investigation that has generated multiple indictments across the region.

As detailed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Missouri, related operations have included controlled deliveries and substantial narcotics seizures, including a January 2024 case that yielded roughly 100 pounds of methamphetamine and about a kilogram of fentanyl pills.

What Happens Next

The trial began Tuesday, and jurors returned guilty verdicts after about 30 minutes of deliberation. A sentencing date will be set once the probation office finishes its report. KTTN reports that federal prosecutors will submit their sentencing recommendation and the judge will weigh advisory guidelines along with other statutory factors.

Prosecutors say the conviction closes a key chapter of the case, although law enforcement efforts remain ongoing for others allegedly tied to the same distribution network. Jarvis will stay in federal custody while the court schedules his sentencing hearing in Springfield.
