A Sunday morning stabbing at the northbound METRO D Line station at Chicago and Franklin avenues left one rider with a neck wound and another person in handcuffs. The victim was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center and is in stable condition, while Metro Transit police continue to investigate what led up to the attack.
According to KSTP, officers arrived just after 8 a.m. at the northbound D Line platform near Chicago and Franklin and found a person who had been stabbed in the neck. Metro Transit police told the station that the victim was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where they were listed in stable condition, and that one individual was taken into custody in connection with the incident.
Police Response and How to Report Tips
The Metro Transit Police Department is responsible for safety on buses and light rail and offers multiple ways for riders to report concerns. Anyone who may have information or video related to the incident is asked to call Metro Transit’s non-emergency line at 612-349-7200 or text the Text for Safety number at 612-900-0411, according to Metro Transit. The agency says it will keep working with its partners as the investigation moves forward.
Corner Has Seen Violent Incidents Before
The intersection of Chicago and Franklin has been a trouble spot before. In February 2024, a shooting near the same corner left one person dead and several others wounded, according to reporting by FOX 9. That history has kept the corridor at the center of public safety debates among city and transit officials, and leaders have periodically pointed to safety efforts on the lines that serve the area as they try to reassure riders.
What Officials Say Now
Authorities have not released the names of either the victim or the person taken into custody, and there has been no public announcement of any charges so far. Metro Transit police say their department is leading the investigation and that more information will be shared as it becomes available. This story will be updated when prosecutors or transit officials release further details.
