Domo Sushi has quietly landed on Lorain Avenue in Ohio City, with final inspections the last hurdle before the shop opens to the public. The compact spot at 3924 Lorain Ave is set to zero in on made-to-order nigiri, sashimi, specialty rolls and Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, balancing a busy pickup and delivery operation with a small sushi counter. Chef-owner Carmen Paponetti and a lean team plan to serve both takeout regulars and counter diners once seats are available.
From Market Hall To Lorain
Paponetti is bringing the Domo concept over from his Japanese street-food stand at Van Aken Market Hall to Ohio City, swapping market hustle for Lorain Avenue foot traffic. As reported by Cleveland Scene, he originally wanted the Van Aken stall to spotlight yakitori and okonomiyaki, but about 80 percent of sales ended up being takeout sushi.
Menu Highlights
The Ohio City menu will lean hard into sushi while keeping okonomiyaki and takoyaki in the mix. The okonomiyaki lineup includes Hiroshima-style builds with toppings such as snow crab, Korean fried chicken and sautéed shrimp. Cleveland Magazine reports that the roughly 800-square-foot space will seat about 20 diners but is designed primarily with takeout in mind.
Who’s Behind The Counter
Domo Sushi's website lists Carmen Paponetti and chef David Rosado as part of the opening roster and teases a menu built around seasonal fish and Japanese street dishes. Paponetti’s background includes time at Century at the Ritz, Goma and Parallax, and the team says the counter will let diners watch the action as chefs prepare both nigiri and made-to-order rolls.
Final Steps And A Soft Opening
The shop is awaiting final inspections and, if everything goes smoothly, could open in the coming days or weeks, with pickup and delivery expected to be busy while the counter seats gradually fill. As reported by Cleveland Scene, sushi bar guests should eventually be able to order seasonal items like uni and toro when the counter is fully up and running.
