Tampa woke up Monday, to a muggy, foggy start, with temperatures near 68°F and very high humidity pooling in low-lying neighborhoods. The thick early haze is expected to lift by late morning, making way for mostly sunny skies and a hot afternoon, with highs forecast to reach around 87°F.

Fog This Morning And Heat Today

A Special Weather Statement issued early Monday flagged patches of fog dropping visibility to a half-mile or less in spots, including New Port Richey East and St. Pete Beach. The murk should clear out by mid to late morning, and once it does, the sun takes over. Highs are expected to climb near 87°F today, with some inland neighborhoods edging into the upper 80s. Forecasters say some record highs may be possible through the middle of the week.

Later in the week, a cold front is expected to arrive sometime Thursday into Friday, bumping up the chances for showers and isolated thunderstorms. The exact timing and coverage are still being fine-tuned as forecasters track the front. Plan Ahead And What To Watch

If you are heading out early, build in some extra time and be ready for sudden drops in visibility in low spots and along the bay. Stick to low beams in the fog and leave more room to brake. Boaters should also go easy in the morning fog. Winds and seas should stay on the lighter side through midweek, then start to pick up once the front nears on Thursday.

We previously previewed this sticky, fog-then-heat stretch in an earlier Hoodline forecast, and we will update this post if additional warnings are issued.
