Deputies say an ATM break-in near the Floral City Strawberry Festival ended with no cash and two 18-year-olds under arrest, after investigators followed a trail from a pried-open machine to a burned stolen UTV in nearby woods. According to the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, the ATM's protective metal housing was broken and the keypad severed, but the internal safe stayed intact, so the machine never yielded any money. Detectives arrested Joshua Yuranko and Anthony Robinson on Monday, within hours of a call that came in on Friday, the agency said.
How Deputies Say The ATM Hit Went Down
According to a Facebook post from the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, crime-scene specialists processed the ATM area at Floral Park and collected evidence that included a beer can and a bent butter knife. The post states that Detectives Slingerland, Watts and Adolf, along with Sgt. Dowling and Deputy McIntyre, canvassed the surrounding area to track down leads after the report. The agency also emphasized that the ATM did not yield any cash because the internal safe remained intact.
Festival Weekend Backdrop
The vandalism happened on the eve of the Floral City Strawberry Festival, a two-day event that drew local crowds the following weekend. The Floral City Strawberry Festival lists the event dates and programming on its official site. Organizers did not immediately comment on the incident.
UTV Theft, Fire And The Evidence Trail
Detective Slingerland found a UTV that had been stolen from a nearby residence in a wooded area, where it had been intentionally burned to the ground, according to the sheriff's post. Investigators reported finding several beer cans of the same brand at both the ATM scene and the burned UTV, which helped link the theft and arson scenes. Yuranko and Robinson were arrested and charged with arson, burglary of an occupied dwelling, attempted grand theft ($10,000–$20,000), grand theft ($5,000–$10,000), tampering with evidence and criminal mischief over $1,000, according to the Citrus County Sheriff's Office.
Charges, Presumption Of Innocence And Next Steps
The arrests are allegations and the suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. The Citrus County Sheriff's Office did not list bond amounts or court dates in its post; court filings or statements from the Citrus County State Attorney's Office will outline the next steps in prosecution.
