Sanford police say a third person has now been indicted in connection with last November’s deadly shooting that rocked a neighborhood just off 14th Street. On March 10, investigators announced that a grand jury had charged Jamarlon Lee Green with first-degree premeditated murder in the Nov. 1 killing of 22-year-old La-Don Ja Quan Williams near 14th Street and Mangoustine Avenue. The new indictment follows earlier arrests and, according to police, is part of an ongoing homicide investigation that is still very much active.
Sanford’s Latest Update Names Jamarlon Green
In a March 10 media release posted to Facebook, the Sanford Police Department announced that Jamarlon Lee Green has been indicted on one count of first-degree premeditated murder, according to the Sanford Police Department. The release lists Michael Hernandez as the department’s public information officer and urges anyone with information to contact Sanford police or Crimeline. It also notes that Green’s indictment comes on the heels of arrests made in December.
How The Case Unfolded
The violence broke out on Nov. 1 near the corner of 14th Street and Mangoustine Avenue, where officers found La-Don Ja Quan Williams suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead, as reported by WFTV. Sanford police arrested Moses Mitchell on Dec. 4, then took Damarious Ditrell Cofield into custody in mid-December. Both men were booked on first-degree premeditated homicide charges, ClickOrlando reported. Investigators said another person at the scene was treated for minor injuries and that detectives have continued to seek witnesses.
Hoodline previously covered the initial arrest of Moses Mitchell. See First Arrest In Williams Killing for more on the Nov. 1 shooting and Mitchell’s December arrest.
How To Help
Authorities are still asking for tips as they work to fully piece together what happened. Crimeline offers anonymity and a reward of up to $5,000 for information that helps solve homicides, according to WFTV. Sanford police say tips can be reported directly to the department or to Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS, or online at www.crimeline.org.
Legal Stakes For A Capital Case
Under Florida law, an indictment for first-degree premeditated murder is the most serious homicide charge on the books. It is classified as a capital felony and can carry penalties that include life imprisonment or, in some circumstances, the death penalty, according to the Florida Statutes. If prosecutors move forward on the charge, the case will head into arraignment and pretrial hearings in Seminole County.
What Comes Next
With a third indictment now filed, Sanford detectives say the investigation is far from over and that they will continue working with the Seminole County State Attorney’s Office as the charges move through the courts, according to the department’s March 10 release. Anyone with information related to the Nov. 1 shooting is urged to contact the Sanford Police Department or Crimeline.
