Toccoa police arrested 28-year-old Anthony David Shedd on Wednesday after a report of child molestation prompted a fast-moving investigation. Authorities said Shedd was booked on aggravated child molestation along with other sexual charges. Officers obtained a warrant and searched his home, where they said they seized evidence connected to the case.
Police say they moved within hours of the report
The Toccoa Police Department said investigators secured a warrant and took Shedd into custody the same day the report came in, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. During the search of Shedd's residence, officers said they found additional evidence tied to the investigation. Toccoa Police Chief Bruce Carlise told FOX 5 Atlanta, "These cases are deeply concerning and demand immediate and thorough action."
Georgia treats aggravated child molestation as a top-tier offense
Aggravated child molestation is one of Georgia's most serious sexual-offense charges and carries steep penalties upon conviction. State law allows for life in prison or a split sentence that includes a mandatory minimum of 25 years behind bars before any probation, according to the statute. Justia outlines those sentencing rules in the published state code.
Case still active as investigators work evidence
Authorities have not released information about the alleged victim or specific details of the accusations, and the investigation remains ongoing. Shedd is being held in custody while prosecutors review the file and investigators continue processing evidence. Police are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Toccoa Police Department.
