Truva, a Mediterranean-American restaurant with a distinctly Turkish bent, is finally nearing its debut on the ground floor of The Sofia Hotel in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter after a lengthy buildout. Owner Meliha Karahan plans a kitchen centered on house-baked breads, tomato sauces and drink syrups, plus Mediterranean breakfasts and a Turkish-forward dinner menu, aiming to give both hotel guests and neighborhood diners a more authentic Turkish option in one of downtown’s busiest visitor hubs.

Where It Will Be

The Sofia Hotel currently lists Truva as “coming soon,” with the restaurant set to occupy the hotel’s ground-floor dining room in the heart of the Gaslamp. The space is intended to function as a full-fledged neighborhood restaurant, open to the public rather than limited to hotel guests, according to the team.

Space, Hours And Seating

The team expects to open this spring, with a target of the end of May if all goes well. The renovated dining room will seat about 145 people, with an L-shaped bar that holds roughly 12 guests, a private room for around a dozen and additional patio seating. Planned hours are Sunday through Thursday, 7 AM to 10:30 PM, and Friday and Saturday, 7 AM to 11 PM, as reported by San Diego Magazine.

A Turkish-Forward Menu

The dinner menu leans hard into Turkish flavors, with mezze boards stocked with baba ghanoush, hummus and stuffed grape leaves, plus Beyti kebabs, beef cabbage rolls and Turkish dumplings. The team also plans to add lahmacun and pide to the lineup down the road. “Everything is going to be from scratch, fresh,” Karahan told San Diego Magazine, noting that the kitchen will bake its own bread and make its own sauces. Truva will run a full bar and serve traditional American breakfast items alongside Mediterranean breakfast plates.

Buildout And Delays

Plans for Truva have been public for more than a year, and earlier reporting in December 2024 noted that the team was deep into remodeling and waiting on permits, which helps explain the drawn-out timeline. What Now reported that the project would convert the former Currant American Brasserie suite, with reopening repeatedly pushed back as construction and approvals continued. The new restaurant will ultimately replace the long-vacant Currant space inside the hotel.

What To Expect And When To Go

Karahan says Truva will welcome both walk-ins and hotel visitors, with the team aiming for a late May debut if final permits and prep work wrap up on schedule. Prospective diners are encouraged to keep an eye on the restaurant’s channels for a firm opening date and reservation details once they are announced.
