UBP Burgers has traded its food-truck-only setup for a permanent home in New Braunfels, bringing its pressed patties into a brick-and-mortar restaurant with dine-in tables and a drive-thru. The spot began serving March 3 on S. Business I-35 after several years of planning, shifting the operation indoors for sit-down meals, takeout and drive-thru runs.
New storefront, same burger
Owner John Evans, who created the Ultimate Burger Press, said the new storefront is about keeping up with demand while making things easier on families grabbing dinner. "Having only a food truck limits you. Here, we can serve more people inside, and have people drive home with our food and take it home to their families," Evans said. According to Community Impact, the restaurant opened March 3 at 588 S. Business I-35.
What's on the menu
The new four-walls spot keeps the truck’s core lineup of burgers and adds more room for sides and sweets. Loaded fries with house-made queso, beer-battered onion rings, salads and milkshakes join the signature pressed patties. UBP’s online menu highlights its Original and Ultimate UBP burgers, loaded fries and house seasoning among the offerings. For hours, catering details and delivery partners, diners can check the restaurant’s site, according to the UBP Burgers website.
The press behind the patties
Evans holds a U.S. design patent for the Ultimate Burger Press, a donut-shaped tool that forms a concave patty aimed at keeping the center juicy while letting the outer ring develop a caramelized crust. U.S. patent records for USD917988S1 list John Wade Evans as the inventor and show the design was published in 2021, per U.S. patent records.
From truck to storefront
The leap from street side to storefront grew out of the truck’s popularity. Evans launched the UBP food truck in 2021 and built a steady local following, including nods in local polls. Planning and permitting for a permanent site moved through filings last year, with construction following and inspections wrapping up ahead of the March opening, according to MySA.
Regulars who were used to lining up at the truck can now grab a booth inside or swing through the drive-thru, and the restaurant’s site lists current hours and ordering options. Expect brisk weekend traffic as the shop settles into a groove; check the UBP site for updated hours and delivery partners, per the UBP Burgers website.
