Las Vegas started Sunday, March 8, 2026, under clear skies and a crisp 50°F at Harry Reid International Airport, with plenty of sunshine on tap and an afternoon high near 76°F.
Afternoon Gusts Along The River
Most of the Las Vegas Valley will deal with only light north winds today, but the Lower Colorado River Valley is set for a much rougher ride. Channeling along the river is expected to whip up gusts to 40–45 mph near Laughlin and Bullhead City this afternoon, kicking up 1–3 foot waves on Lake Mohave and Lake Havasu. The National Weather Service is urging boaters and drivers of high-profile vehicles to use caution and secure any loose outdoor items before the strongest gusts arrive.
Small Chance Of Showers Monday South Of I‑40
A closed low sliding east across southern Arizona on Monday will bump up moisture just enough to spark a 10–20% chance of isolated showers or a rumble of thunder south of I‑40 Monday afternoon, with southern Mohave County the most likely area to see anything. Coverage looks sparse, so most valley neighborhoods should stay dry. Once the low exits and ridging builds back in, dry conditions return to the region.
Heat Builds Later This Week
Mid-level ridging strengthens through the week, sending highs into the upper 70s and 80s by Thursday and pushing temperatures into the upper 80s to around 90°F by Friday and the weekend. Forecasters put the odds at roughly 50% that Las Vegas hits 90°F on Friday, March 13, which would rank among the earliest 90°F days on record. If you have heat-sensitive outdoor plans later this week, try to schedule them for the morning or evening, keep water handy while working or playing outside, and check the latest forecast before heading to the river or nearby lakes. Boaters on the Colorado River should keep an eye out for advisories and make sure loose gear is secured ahead of the afternoon gusts.
