Golden Nugget Las Vegas has become the first casino in the city to offer 3-Dice Yahtzee, a new house-banked table game that turns the classic family dice game into a head-to-head casino bet complete with progressive jackpots. The game, developed by Galaxy Gaming, pits two hands of dice against each other and lets players wager on which side comes out ahead.
3-Dice Yahtzee uses two sets of three dice, described in the game as a red hand and a blue hand, and players wager on whether the red side or blue side will win or whether the two sides will tie, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Hands are ranked much like the tabletop game most players grew up with: a Yahtzee, meaning three matching dice, ranks highest, followed by a straight, with chance settling any hand that lands neither. When neither side rolls a Yahtzee or a straight, the outcome comes down to chance, which uses the simple sum of the three dice, and the higher chance total wins the hand.
How the Wagers and Jackpots Work
The game is built with layers of side bets on top of the core red-versus-blue wager. Casinos can configure enhanced payouts for a winning hand of three 6s, and an optional wager on a 10-versus-8 chance result can pay 35-to-1. There's also a built-in quirk: a winning chance score of 10 against a losing score of 8 pushes the wager instead of paying even money, rather than awarding a standard win.
3-Dice Yahtzee also offers a progressive wager based on the combined six dice from both the red and blue hands, with progressive payouts available for five- and six-dice Yahtzees and straights. Rolling six 6s across both hands can win the progressive jackpot outright, while a winning 6-6-6 Yahtzee can pay 6-to-5 or 3-to-2 instead of even money depending on how a casino sets its paytable, the Review-Journal reports.
A Hasbro Board Game Finds Its Way to the Pit
The game exists thanks to a licensing agreement between Galaxy Gaming and Hasbro covering Yahtzee- and Monopoly-branded games for casino floors. That deal traces back to July 2025, when Hasbro selected Galaxy Gaming alongside Aristocrat, Evolution and Bally's as part of a multi-year licensing push under its “Playing to Win” strategy, according to a Hasbro announcement. The arrangement split rights across gambling formats, with Aristocrat taking land-based slot rights for Monopoly while Galaxy Gaming secured table game rights, as Covers.com reported at the time.
Galaxy Gaming first showed early Monopoly and Yahtzee table game concepts to North American operators at the Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas in October, according to CDC Gaming Reports. The company then formally introduced 3-Dice Yahtzee to the international market at the International Casinos Exhibition in Barcelona in January, and the game was introduced in other markets before making its Las Vegas debut this week. To help table games compete visually with flashy modern slot floors, Galaxy Gaming also built custom LED merchandising displays for the pits carrying its Hasbro titles, according to the same CDC Gaming Reports coverage.
Golden Nugget Bets on a Familiar Favorite
Golden Nugget said Galaxy Gaming is bringing a fresh twist to a familiar favorite as it adds the game to its gaming floor. Tyler Knight said 3-Dice Yahtzee brings the fun of Yahtzee to the casino pit, adding that the game turns the classic dice roll into a fast, head-to-head table game.
The addition comes weeks after Golden Nugget reshuffled its own gaming floor, relocating and redesigning Downtown's only poker room into the Rush Tower lobby, a move that expanded capacity to nine tables and 63 seats, as Golden Nugget Shuffles Downtown Poker Room detailed. Golden Nugget operates under Fertitta Entertainment, the company owned by Houston billionaire Tilman Fertitta, whose holdings include multiple Golden Nugget properties along with the NBA's Houston Rockets.
Downtown Vegas Chases the Strip's Foot Traffic
The new table arrives during a strong stretch for Downtown Las Vegas gaming. Nevada casinos posted an all-time statewide gross gaming revenue record of $15.8 billion in 2025, with Downtown win increasing by more than 2% while Las Vegas Strip revenue stayed flat, according to Casino.org. Downtown casinos kept that momentum going into June, generating $75.5 million in total gaming win, a 2.64% increase over the same month last year, per Nevada Gaming Control Board statistics.
Galaxy Gaming, meanwhile, rolls out 3-Dice Yahtzee as a fully independent company. Online live-casino operator Evolution terminated its planned $85 million takeover of Galaxy Gaming this July due to regulatory approval delays, leaving Galaxy Gaming to develop and license its table games on its own, according to Yogonet. For now, Golden Nugget stands alone as the only Las Vegas casino dealing the game, a novelty bet that gives Downtown one more reason to lure players away from the Strip's slot floors.
