A north Harris County traffic stop on Tuesday turned into a felony arrest after deputies say they pulled over a driver with an open warrant and a stolen gun in the car on the 12500 block of Walters Road.
According to Harris County Constable Precinct 4, the man was wanted on a felony aggravated assault warrant and was carrying a handgun that Houston police had already listed as stolen. The arrest was announced Tuesday night on social media by Constable Mark Herman's office.
Deputies Say Routine Stop Quickly Turned Serious
In a Facebook post from Constable Mark Herman's Office, officials said Deputy E. Lopez initiated the traffic stop on Walters Road and identified the driver as an adult male with an open felony warrant for aggravated assault.
Deputies say the driver tried to dodge trouble by giving a fictitious name. That move did not work. After positively identifying him, Precinct 4 says the man was taken into custody without incident.
Stolen Handgun Recovered, Houston Police Notified
The same social media post states that deputies recovered a handgun during the stop and later learned it had been reported stolen to the Houston Police Department.
"Precinct 4 Live: wanted felon caught with stolen firearm after giving false name!" the agency wrote, summing up the arrest in one exclamation-heavy caption.
