A West Allis police officer is back home after being hit by a vehicle Monday afternoon when a traffic stop quickly turned into a chase, according to investigators. Officers followed the fleeing car until it collided with another vehicle near 84th Street just north of I‑94, where it finally came to a stop. Police said the driver ran off on foot while a passenger stayed behind and was detained at the scene, and that the officer was ultimately determined to be OK.
Stop, pursuit and crash
Police say the incident began around 4:30 p.m., when officers tried to pull over a car on Greenfield Avenue, with the initial contact reported near 84th and Greenfield. Instead of stopping, the driver allegedly took off, and officers pursued as the vehicle struck several other cars before crashing near 84th Street north of I‑94. The driver abandoned the vehicle and was taken into custody a short time later, according to TMJ4.
Arrests and officer status
According to West Allis police, the passenger who stayed at the crash scene was arrested, while officers later located the driver who had run along Honey Creek Parkway. Investigators told WISN that Wauwatosa Police and Milwaukee Police are assisting the investigation and that no other injuries were immediately reported. The department has not released names or outlined potential charges as detectives continue their work.
Investigation underway
Local reporting says the officer who was struck was evaluated at a hospital and then released, and that investigators are still gathering evidence. TMJ4 noted that detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the West Allis Police Department. Authorities have not yet provided additional details about the driver’s condition or whether formal charges will be filed.
