A weekend house fire ripped through a home in the 5200 block of West Kemper Road in Colerain Township just after 1 p.m. Saturday, sending thick smoke and flames pouring from the garage and forcing residents to scramble outside. When firefighters pulled up, the people who lived there were already out, and crews from several departments teamed up to go after the fire and pull a dog from the burning structure.
Mutual aid on scene and a six-figure loss
According to a post from the Colerain Township Department of Fire & EMS, fire companies from Forest Park, Springfield Township and Springdale rolled in to assist Colerain crews at the scene. Firefighters reported smoke throughout the house and visible flames chewing through the garage as they worked to knock the blaze down. Officials put the damage estimate at roughly $100,000 while the fire was being brought under control.
Red Cross steps in as cause remains unclear
The department said in its post that "The American Red Cross is assisting three adults," and noted that the cause of the fire "is classified as undetermined" while investigators continue to dig into what happened. The update did not list any confirmed injuries, and firefighters stayed on site to handle overhaul and salvage work once the main fire was out. Officials said they plan to share more details if investigators are able to pinpoint an exact origin.
Colerain firefighters, heavy call volume and what happens next
Colerain Township's Department of Fire & EMS, which the township reports makes more than 10,250 emergency responses a year, routinely works shoulder to shoulder with nearby departments on larger house fires, according to the township's public information. Those materials also outline the agency's range of responsibilities, from advanced life support to technical rescues, along with station locations and community programs. For now, investigators are continuing their work at the fire scene, and the Red Cross is providing short-term help to the three adults who were displaced.
