A man was rushed to the hospital after being shot multiple times on San Antonio's West Side on Sunday, and the suspect police say pulled the trigger is a teenager who took off running before officers arrived. The shooting has left neighbors rattled while officers pound the pavement for clues and video that could point them to the gunman.
What happened
According to News 4 San Antonio, officers responded to reports of gunfire and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The alleged shooter, described by police as a teenager, had already fled the scene. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, though his condition was not immediately released, the outlet reports. Detectives canvassed the block, knocking on doors and talking to witnesses as they tried to piece together what happened.
West Side violence and data
This latest shooting adds to a troubling run of gun violence on the West Side. Earlier this year, KSAT reported on a separate case in which a man was critically wounded after being shot in the neck outside a home in the same area. City officials have urged residents to use the San Antonio Police Department’s RAIDS Online crime map to track neighborhood-level crime trends, noting that the department offers a user guide to help people navigate recent incident data.
How to help
SAPD detectives are leading the investigation and are asking anyone who might have seen or recorded anything to speak up. Crime Stoppers of San Antonio lists an anonymous tip line at 210-224-STOP (7867), the P3 Tips mobile app and a text option (text “Tip 127” to CRIMES/274637) for sending in information that could move the case forward.
What investigators say next
Police have not released a detailed description of the suspect beyond identifying him as a teenager, and no arrests have been announced. Detectives are continuing to follow up on leads and have renewed their plea for anyone with video or information to contact SAPD or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers, according to News 4 San Antonio.
