An east Charlotte driver who barreled the wrong way down E. W.T. Harris Boulevard and caused a deadly head-on collision has now admitted to the crimes and is headed to prison for up to nine years.

On March 13, 2026, Felix Davila pleaded guilty to felony death by motor vehicle and felony serious injury by motor vehicle in connection with the crash that killed Yaneth Del Carmen Guevara. Superior Court Judge Carla Archie sentenced Davila to 80 to 108 months behind bars after accepting the plea.

Charlotte Alerts News reports that Davila entered the pleas in Superior Court on March 13 and that Judge Archie imposed the 80 to 108 month sentence as part of the resolution of the felony counts tied to the multi vehicle wreck from January 11, 2025.

What Happened On E. W.T. Harris

The collision unfolded on the night of January 11, 2025, in the 7700 block of E. W.T. Harris Boulevard. Investigators say a Chevrolet S 10 pickup traveling the wrong way struck a Honda and a Dodge Ram. A Kia then hit the Ram’s trailer hitch in the chain reaction crash.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the driver of the Honda, Yaneth Del Carmen Guevara, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Seven other people were transported to area hospitals for treatment.

Detectives said from the outset that excessive speed and impairment were suspected factors. CMPD reported that warrants for felony death by vehicle and four counts of felony serious injury by vehicle were obtained and would be served once the Chevrolet’s driver was released from medical care.

Arrest And Charges

Local coverage at the time noted that the driver of the Chevrolet was released from the hospital and arrested on January 13, 2025. Authorities said he was booked on felony death by vehicle and multiple counts of serious injury by vehicle.

WSOC reported that investigators believed impairment and speed played a role in the wreck.

Sentence And Legal Fallout

Davila’s guilty pleas brought the criminal case to a close and set up the roughly seven year prison term handed down by Judge Archie. The plea deal and 80 to 108 month sentence are detailed by Charlotte Alerts News.

It was not immediately clear from the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s online news listings whether the office had issued its own public statement on the outcome. Recent releases from prosecutors can be found on the DA’s public news page.

Family Remembers A ‘Joyful’ Mother

In earlier interviews, Guevara’s relatives said she had been leaving a birthday party when the wrong way crash shattered their family. They described her as a joyful mother whose absence is felt daily.

As WSOC reported, her husband expressed a mix of grief and hard won grace, saying, “If God lets me face him, I will forgive him for everything,” as the family mourned and watched the criminal case work its way through the courts.
